Emergency symptoms

Seek immediate emergency assessment for sudden or severe vision loss, chemical eye exposure, penetrating or significant eye trauma, severe pain with nausea or halos, a curtain or shadow over vision, new flashes with many floaters, or new neurological symptoms such as weakness or speech difficulty. Do not wait for an online result or routine appointment.

AI limitations

AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate or inappropriate for an individual case. It is generated from the text provided and cannot perform an eye examination, measure vision or pressure, inspect the retina, or consider all medical history and medications.

No diagnosis or treatment

Subspecialty and urgency suggestions are routing aids only. Do not start, stop or change medication, contact-lens use, postoperative care or other treatment based solely on Shekwa.

Children and vulnerable users

A parent, guardian or responsible adult should assist children and users who cannot independently understand the information. Lower thresholds for direct medical assessment may be appropriate in infants, children, postoperative patients and immunocompromised users.

Shekwa

A safer way to understand urgency and reach the right eye-care subspecialty. It does not replace an in-person medical assessment.
